Dog Licensing Now Under
the Sheriff's Office
Questions? Call (503) 366-4606 During Business Hours
The Sheriff's Office is now overseeing the licensing of all dogs in Columbia County, replacing the licensing that occurred at the Courthouse. The purpose is to enable better communication between licensing and Dog Control, which was already under Sheriff's Office management.
License applications can be downloaded and mailed to the Sheriffs office with proof of rabies vaccinations. You may obtain a license application from the Sheriff or download a pdf file HERE.
We are in the process of developing additional means whereby dog owners may comply with the state law (ORS 609.100) that requires every person owning or keeping any dog having a set of permanent canine teeth, or that is six months of age (whichever comes first) to be licensed. Be watching for new programs allowing dog owners additional locations and means to obtain licenses for their dogs.
This is all for the intent of making it easier for citizens to comply with the law. Thank you for your patience as we improve this long-standing program.
